My Favorite Lectures

Throughout the semester we had a ton of lectures and in each one I learned something new. One of my favorite lectures we had was about the play called "Antigone" by Sophocles. This is where I learned about the fish bowls and I was able to hear what my fellow classmates thought about the concept of moral rights versus the written law. This was one of my favorite lectures because I enjoy being able to discuss and express my thoughts to others as well as listening. I also have an interest in old Greek philosophy which made it interesting to learn that there were such skilled writers at the time of which this play was made.
One of my favorite lectures also had to be the poetry unit. I have never really had an interest for it mostly because I have a hard time understanding it. When we had the fishbowl where everyone had their own poem they chose and the song that had a similar theme and tone was truly interesting. During this lecture I really got to sit back and listen to everyone's thoughts and each person was speaking straight from their heart.
The lecture about "A Streetcar Named Desire" was my favorite out of these three. I learned so much about illusions and how people really do try to portray themselves as something they are really not, but want to be. I was really able to relate to this topic of illusion because today it is so common to see and meet people who act very differently in certain places or in uncomfortable situations.

Reflection

This semester has gone so fast, it felt like just yesterday, Professor Brady was just introducing what a fishbowl was. I have only had few teachers/professors to ever remember each of her students writing and how they speak, and Professor Brady is one of them. I have always been a quiet student, until I joined her class, when she made everyone at some point answer a question or speak their mind. At the beginning of the semester I was worried about the workload, but after a few weeks I realized it only helped me to become a better writer and also helped me with speaking openly and more fluently. I truly enjoyed this class because I become more open minded to new ideas. I was able to interact with my fellow classmates and make new friends as well as learning new stories, such as "A Streetcar Named Desire", new poems and than being able to express my thoughts by writing about them in the pubs and papers.
